PFLP: Detention of Saadat targets Palestinian women's resilience
Following the occupation's detention of Abla Saadat, wife of PFLP Secretary-General Ahmed Saadat, the PFLP releases a statement saying that the detention constitutes a new crime by the Israeli occupation.
Following the detention of activist Abla Saadat, wife of the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmad Saadat, the PFLP released a statement calling her detention a new crime by the Israeli occupation.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine stressed that "the detention of comrade Abla Saadat, the wife of the imprisoned Secretary-General, Comrade Ahmed Saadat, is a new Zionist crime added to the occupation's record of crimes against our people."
The PFLP explained that Saadat's detention "comes within the framework of a systematic policy targeting the leaders of the national and feminist movement and their families, in a desperate attempt to discourage them from continuing their struggle against the occupation."
In their statement, the PFLP pointed out that "targeting Saadat, who has always suffered from the bitterness of detention and who represents a symbol of steadfastness and struggle, along with her comrade, Comrade Abu Ghassan [her husband] and a group of male and female fighters, falls within a plan that targets the leaders of the Palestinian people, especially Palestinian women, who have always been at the forefront of the national movement."
The Front emphasized the inability of these crimes to undermine the determination of the Palestinian people, and their lack of impact "on the will of the militants who continue their resistance despite all the occupation's failed attempts to break them, nor will they undermine the determination of the national activist Abla Saadat or break the advanced revolutionary model represented by Commander Ahmed Saadat."
The PFLP added in their statement that this detention highlights the Israeli occupation’s criminal policies toward Palestinian women, who are continuously subjected to abuse and detention, as seen with Khalida Jarrar, who remains in solitary confinement and faces further abuse and oppression. These crimes aim to undermine the role of women in the national movement.
The PFLP urged for "intensifying all forms of support and solidarity with detainees" to maintain pressure on the occupation, demanding an end to its oppressive policies and crimes. They emphasized the need for expanded international efforts to end detainees' suffering and "hold the Zionist jailers accountable" for their crimes.
