The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has issued a stark warning regarding the deteriorating health of its Secretary-General, Ahmad Sa’adat, who remains in solitary confinement at Megiddo Prison.
The group holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for Sa’adat’s well-being, citing recent reports of brutal assaults and mistreatment during his latest transfer. The PFLP describes these actions as part of a systematic campaign aimed at the slow physical and psychological liquidation of Palestinian prisoners through medical neglect, torture, abuse, isolation, and starvation.
Mounting concerns over prisoner treatment
The PFLP has also highlighted the continued targeting of its leaders, including Political Bureau member and head of the prison branch, Ahed Abu Ghoulmeh, who was recently transferred to Gilboa Prison under harsh conditions. Other prominent prisoners from Hamas, the Palestinians Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and the PFLP, such as Hassan Salameh, Abdullah Barghouthi, and Ibrahim Hamed, are also subjected to an unprecedented campaign of abuse and torture.
These developments come amid a broader context of escalating tensions and military aggression on Gaza.
On May 5, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a new intensified military offensive in Gaza, dubbed "Operation Gideon's Chariots," with the repeated aims of the ongoing war on Palestinians.

Calls for international intervention
The PFLP reaffirmed its commitment, along with other resistance forces, to make every sacrifice necessary for the liberation of all prisoners—including Sa’adat and his fellow leaders—and to end their ongoing suffering in the occupation’s prisons.
The group also called on Palestinians, active forces at home and in the diaspora, all free people around the world, and international human rights and humanitarian organizations to act urgently and effectively. It urged participation in the widest possible solidarity campaign with the prisoners, in order to pressure the occupation to halt these grave crimes, save the lives of the detainees, and expose these practices to global public opinion.
