A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle confirmed on Thursday that the couple has been evicted from their cottage at Windsor Castle.

Shortly before the birth of their son, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved from Kensington Palace into Windsor Castle.

"We can confirm The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage," the spokesperson said.

King Charles decided to evict Harry and Meghan the day after Harry released his memoir "Spare" in January.

The couple has already made major renovations to the property to turn it into a large home for their family and had planned to maintain ownership over the property.

"This contribution as originally offered by Prince Harry has fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage, a property of Her Majesty The Queen, and will remain the UK residence of the duke and his family," the statement said.

The couple was "stunned" by the king's decision to evict them. The Sussexes will have to be completely moved out of the cottage by the summer.

"Initially they were given just weeks, but now they have at least until after the coronation,", a source said. Furthermore, the cottage was offered to Prince Andrew, who was previously stripped of all royal titles and honors following a sexual assault scandal.

Prince Andrew, after settling a sexual assault lawsuit, has fallen from grace in the eyes of the international community and at home; he was stripped from all military titles and royal patronage over the assault case, in which he was affiliated with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The royal family did not provide the couple with another protected location to stay in the UK as his appeal to the UK government to hire police protection for his family is still being reviewed. It is reported that the couple was "stunned" by the king's decision to evict them.

After the release of Prince Harry's memoir and Netflix's "Harry & Meghan", his relationship with the royal family is more strained than ever.
