Putin congratulates Pezeshkian on victory, vows continued cooperation
Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov reiterated Russia's hopes for the success of Iran under its new leadership and reaffirmed the desire to enhance allied relations between the two nations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday extended his congratulations to Masoud Pezeshkian on winning the Iranian presidential election, expressing wishes for success in his new role.
Following their phone call, the Kremlin press service reported that Putin praised Pezeshkian's victory and reaffirmed Russia's commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Tehran.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with Iranian President-Elect Masoud Pezeshkian. Vladimir Putin congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the presidential election and wished him every success," a statement by the Kremlin read.
"Both sides expressed satisfaction with the high level of Russian-Iranian good-neighborly elections and reiterated their readiness to make joint efforts to continue developing mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas," it further noted.

On Saturday, the Iranian Ministry of Interior announced the victory of candidate Masoud Pezeshkian in the Iranian presidential elections runoff, following the completion of vote counting in tens of thousands of polling stations across the country.
Pezeshkian garnered 53.6% of the votes, while his conservative opponent, Saeed Jalili, received 44.3% of the votes.
He is scheduled to take the constitutional oath before the Parliament at the beginning of August, as per Iranian news reports.
Within 15 days, he is expected to appoint ministers for his upcoming government, who will then undergo a vote of confidence.
The Iranian presidential election followed the tragic death of former President Ebrahim Raisi in a plane crash, prompting the need for an expedited electoral process to fill the vacancy.
