Putin offers condolences to Iranian president after train crash
Russia's President speaks with his Iranian counterpart over the phone to express his condolences about the railway accident that killed more than 20.
The Kremlin reported on Wednesday that Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, spoke by phone with his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, to express his condolences regarding the railway accident that claimed human lives.
The train was on its way from Mashhad to Yazd when it derailed near Tabas at 5:30 am local time. Authorities reported that it crashed with an excavator on the railroad, and according to the governor of Tabas, four train carriages derailed in the tragedy.
The media reported that the death toll from the train derailment reached 21, with more than 80 people injured so far. According to Iran's Red Crescent Society, there were about 430 passengers on the train.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi. Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences in connection with the railway accident that took place this morning in Iran, which claimed human lives," the Kremlin said in a statement.
Both presidents highly appreciated the level of relations that was achieved between the two countries.
