Qatar to reopen embassy in Syria: Foreign Ministry
After former President Bashar al-Assad stepped down, Qatar announced its plan to soon reopen its embassy in Syria.
Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari, announced on Wednesday that Qatar plans to soon reopen its embassy in Syria, which has been closed since 2011.

Al-Ansari underlined that the embassy of the Syrian opposition in Doha is among the new Syrian embassies, emphasizing that this underscores a sense of pride and that the State of Qatar's position has not changed since day one of the Syrian crisis, in support of the aspirations of the brotherly people of Syria by all means available.
He added that Qatar is open for all communication channels and with all parties at various levels to "extend a helping hand and conduct the essential consultations on the future of Syria".
Al-Ansari touched upon the latest Israeli violence against Syria and the occupation of the buffer zone with the Syrian Arab Republic and its neighboring leadership positions, considering "this act as an Israeli opportunism that cannot be accepted in the international community".
"Nobody is under the umbrella of the law of the jungle, and there is international law, international legitimacy, and international institutions, and Syria's territorial integrity and unity must be respected, and these circumstances should not be exploited, stressed Al Ansari."
This comes after the recent developments in Syria, which led to the fall of the Assad regime and the rise of the new transitional government.
On Tuesday, Mohammed al-Bashir, head of the so-called "salvation government," announced, in a televised speech, that he has been authorized to form an interim government by the decision of the new government forces that have taken over Damascus.
"By decision of the General Command, we have been authorized to form an interim government. This will be done tentatively by March 1, 2025," al-Bashir told al-Hadath broadcaster.
It is worth noting that the so-called "salvation government" was formed by opposition forces in Idlib in January 2024 while Syria was still under the leadership of now-ousted President Bashar al-Assad.
