Region to ignite if US-backed Israeli aggression persists: Ghalibaf
The speaker of Iran's parliament warns against continued Israeli aggression in the region, saying peace could not be restored past that point.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned of the severe consequences of the current situation in the Middle East, particularly in light of the Israeli occupation's ongoing aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.
Speaking at the 149th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Ghalibaf stated, "The world will witness a major crisis, and the region will ignite," if Israeli massacres, supported by the United States and its allies, continue.
Ghalibaf called on nations supporting "Israel" to "halt their intelligence, political, and economic backing of the Zionist entity before it's too late." He emphasized that Israeli escalation would set the region ablaze, warning, "Once that happens, peace cannot be restored. Everyone will suffer," including the US and the occupation's allies.
Before traveling to Geneva, Ghalibaf visited Beirut on Friday at the invitation of Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. During his visit, he delivered a message from Iranian Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, reaffirming Tehran's unwavering support for the Lebanese government, people, and resistance.
Referring to the recent massacre at the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, Gaza, where displaced civilians were burned alive in their tents, Ghalibaf condemned the Israeli occupation. "We are facing an entity that does not hesitate to burn civilians alive," he said, referencing the atrocity that occurred between Sunday night and Monday morning.
He further stated, "Israel is transforming crime into the norm. Are we to continue standing by and watching this happen?" Ghalibaf suggested that the occupation's increasing brutality stems from its belief that "its end is near." He called on the world to stand on the right side of history, asserting, "History will judge us all."
Israeli miscalculation in Lebanon
Addressing Israeli aggression against Lebanon, including the assassination of Islamic Resistance leaders, notably Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Ghalibaf argued that the Israeli occupation mistakenly believed it could eliminate the Lebanese resistance by martyring Sayyed Nasrallah. "However, yesterday's operation targeting the Golani Brigade base in Haifa proved the opposite—Hezbollah is alive," Ghalibaf declared.
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, on Sunday evening, launched a swarm of one-way drones at a training camp of the Golani Brigade in Binyamina, south of occupied Haifa.
The Israeli occupation military admitted to the killing of at least four of its soldiers, while "Israel's" emergency service Magen David Adom confirmed that 67 were wounded in the attack.
The Israel Hayom newspaper noted that 52 Israeli soldiers from the Golani Brigade are still hospitalized, with several of them in critical condition.
Ghalibaf reiterated Iran's commitment to supporting a ceasefire, "which has the full backing of the Lebanese government, people, and resistance."
Concluding his remarks, Ghalibaf stressed that Iran was acting per its historical responsibility, stating, "We await the world's response to defending human rights."
