Rockets Target Turkish Military Base North of Mosul
A security source told Shafaq News that the camp was targeted by at least two missiles.
Al Mayadeen correspondent in Iraq reported that five Katyusha rockets have hit the Turkish Zilkan military base, north of Mosul, in the Nineveh governorate.
Furthermore, a security source told Shafaq News that the camp was targeted by at least two missiles with no immediate reports of damages or losses.
In a similar incident, local media reported a rocket attack near a Turkish military base in northern Iraq’s Bashiqa region.
Turkish forces have conducted intensive operations against Kurdish militants in both Iraq and Syria in recent years.
Furthermore, Turkey claims that attacks came in response to constant assaults carried out or orchestrated by elements of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
It is worth mentioning that Ankara has been fighting the PKK for more than three decades now both inside and outside the country.
In June 2020, Ankara launched Operation Claw-Tiger and Operation Claw-Eagle against the PKK in northern Iraq, during which Erbil and various Kurdish regions were bombed several times.
The presence of Turkish troops in the Zlikan military base has long sparked a dispute between Baghdad and Ankara, which claims that their presence is to combat the PKK.
