Russia arrests 8 members of a terrorist organization
The militants belong to the terrorist group “Unification and Jihad Brigade” and finance terrorist groups in Syria.
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Thursday it had detained eight militants planning attacks in Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, and Novosibirsk.
The militants, immigrants from the countries of Central Asia, belong to the terrorist group "Unification and Jihad Brigade".
Security officials stated that these detainees were recruiting new members in order to organize them and send them to areas of armed conflict, as well as financing terrorist groups in Syria and inciting them to commit terrorist-related crimes.
The FSB said it had seized Communication devices, electronic devices, and credit cards from the suspects.
The top official in Crimea said on Wednesday that the FSB security service had broken up what he described as a six-person terrorist cell of a banned extremist group, one day after explosions hit one of Russia’s military bases there.
A statement by FSB did not mention whether the detainees were linked to explosions on Tuesday at a base in northern Crimea or last week at a Russian military base in western Crimea.
