Russia opens probe on alleged chemical weapons use by Ukraine in Kursk
Several residents evacuated from border villages previously reported to Sputnik that they observed acrid yellow smoke and unusual steam following Ukrainian attacks, which caused them to feel unwell.
Russian military investigators are reviewing information from residents evacuated from the Kursk region about the potential use of ammunition containing toxic substances by Ukrainian armed forces, a military official told Sputnik on Saturday.
"As part of an investigation into a criminal case initiated in connection with crimes in the Kursk region, military investigators will be reviewing the information provided by victims about the possible use of shells containing toxic substances by Ukrainian military units," the representative said.

Observers say that Kiev's recent offensive of Kursk has been a catastrophic failure for Ukraine.
According to Russia's Defense Ministry, approximately 12,000 Ukrainian military personnel have died since the offensive began on August 6.
Other sources corroborate that the situation remains intense, with heavy losses reported as both sides continue their operations.
Earlier today, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said the attack on Kursk could be a precursor to a formal decision regarding Moscow's use of nuclear weapons.
"So far, no decision on the use of nuclear weapons (non-strategic or even more so strategic) has been taken. Although, to put it bluntly, there are formal prerequisites for this, which are clear to the entire world community and consistent with our doctrine of nuclear deterrence. Kursk, for example," Medvedev posted Saturday on his Telegram channel.
