The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) detained four female agents who were trained by Ukraine to carry out terrorist activities inside Russia, targeting high-ranking Russian officials and energy infrastructure.
The suspects were operating in three cities: Sevastopol, Voronezh, and Rostov-on-Don, and were trained by Ukraine on firearms, mines and explosives, UAV operation, and detecting external surveillance. Searches found significant amounts of explosive material and manuals to construct explosive devices.
The agents confessed to their crimes and were charged with terrorism, with three of them saying they were told to gather information and prepare bomb attacks against Russian Defense Ministry officials, with the FSB continuing to investigate with them to uncover their accomplices.
FSB efforts against Ukrainian sabotage
The Russian Federal Security Service thwarted a terrorist attack by Ukrainian special services targeting the only Aircraft Carrier in Russia's navy, Admiral Kuznetsov, in July of last year.
A Russian military serviceman stationed on the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier was contacted by a Ukrainian special services operative, who tried to deploy psychological manipulation tactics to push the Russian serviceman into planning a terrorist attack on the ship.
In another incident in November, the FSB announced that it foiled a Ukrainian plot to seize a Russian electronic warfare helicopter and deliver it to Ukrainian Forces by recruiting a Russian pilot to hijack the helicopter and defect.
In December, the FSB thwarted an attack by the Ukrainian special services targeting a senior defense executive from a company that supplied the Russian Defense Ministry, where seven Russians were stalking the target and preparing to carry out an attack using an Improvised Explosive Device.
