Russia thwarts the second Ukrainian attack on Crimea in one day

The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that its air defense systems destroyed the missile fired at the Crimean bridge while smoke screens were put up in the vicinity.

Russia's air defense forces shot down two Ukrainian missiles over the Crimean bridge that connects the Peninsula to the rest of Russia.

"Air defense forces shot down two enemy missiles over the Kerch Strait. The Crimean bridge was not damaged," Sergei Aksyonov, the head of Crimea, said on Telegram.

Pictures showed columns of smoke rising into the air in the vicinity of the bridge. However, reports show that the Russian army had deployed smoke screens to deter the attack.

The Russian Ministry of Defense revealed that the Ukrainian army attempted to strike the Crimean bridge with an S-200 air defense guided missiles which it had appropriated for offensive action.

The missile was detected, intercepted, and destroyed by Russian air defenses, Moscow said, adding that the attack resulted in no casualties or damages.

Overnight on Saturday, Russian air defense systems thwarted a Ukrainian aerial attack on Crimea composed of 20 attack drones.

"Tonight, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack using twenty unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs] on sites on the territory of the Crimean peninsula was thwarted," the Defense Ministry stated.

Air defense systems managed to destroy 14 UAVs while the remaining 6 were disabled by electronic jamming systems. 

An advisor to Crimea governor, Oleg Kryuchov, announced on a Telegram channel that no casualties or damage resulted from the failed attack, adding that several defense systems were activated as a result of the attempted terrorist assault.

Simaoultanessouly, traffic across the Crimean Bridge was halted during the duration of the attack for around two hours and was eventually resumed.
