Russian forces foil Ukrainian assault in South Donetsk: MoD
A series of explosions hit Kiev, as well as the regions of Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, and Sumy overnight, as per Ukrainian media.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesperson said, as quoted by Sputnik, that Russian forces have foiled an attempt by Ukrainian forces to target positions of the Vostok group in the South-Donetsk direction.
"An attempt by the enemy to attack the advanced positions of the ‘Vostok’ group of forces was thwarted in the south Donetsk direction. Motorized rifle units, with the support of artillery, destroyed two mortar crews, an anti-tank grenade launcher crew, and manpower," the spokesperson said.
In further detail, the spokesperson added that crews of Russian TOS-1A "Solntsepek" (Blazing Sun) thermobaric rocket launchers caused personnel damage in the Novomykhailivka region, while crews of high-power self-propelled mortars 2S4 'Tyulpan' removed a temporary deployment position of Ukrainian soldiers.
Concurrently, a Russian Lancet kamikaze drone also eradicated a Krab self-propelled tracked gun-howitzer in the direction of southern Donetsk, Sputnik quoted the spokesperson as saying.
Earlier, Kiev mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that there had been several blasts in the Ukrainian capital, causing damage to a warehouse and a fire.
"In the Holosiivskyi District, a fire is being contained over an area of ​​700 square meters [7,535 square feet]. The destruction of building structures covers a total area of ​​1,000 square meters ... The roof of a three-story warehouse building is on fire," Klitschko stated in a Telegram post on Sunday morning.
According to air raid data from Ukraine's Ministry of Digital Transformation, air raid sirens sounded in Ukraine's capital overnight.
