Russian Foreign Minister arrives in Beijing to meet his counterpart
Russia's FM and his Chinese counterpart will discuss bilateral cooperation and interaction in the international arena.
The Russian Foreign Ministry revealed that Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in China for an official visit today.
Following a previous readout from the Russian Foreign Ministry announcing that Lavrov will stay in Beijing for two days and meet with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, the ministry said on Telegram this morning that he had landed in Beijing.
Lavrov's last visit to Beijing was in October, for an international forum on Chinese President Xi Jinping's flagship Belt and Road infrastructure initiative.
A deeper insight into the meetings
"On April 8-9, the official visit of Russian Foreign Minister S. V. Lavrov to China will take place and will include negotiations with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi," Russia's Foreign Ministry announced on April 7.
According to the statement, Lavrov and Wang will discuss bilateral cooperation and interaction in the international arena with a particular focus on joint work within the United Nations, BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, G20, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation as well as other multilateral mechanisms and forums.
The discussions will additionally encompass a comprehensive exchange of perspectives concerning various current and regional matters, such as the war in Ukraine and the state of affairs in the Asia-Pacific region.
