Russian Foreign Ministry: Sanctions have no legal grounds

The Russian Foreign Ministry stated today, Tuesday, that the Western sanctions have no legal grounds, and are unrelated to the current situation.

The Ministry mentioned that Moscow offered joint work, but the West blocked it, blaming them for destroying all existing international legal foundations, adding that Moscow has not yet worked out all retaliatory measures to Western sanctions. The Ministry slammed the sanctions as totally immoral.

On another note, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, blamed the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, for Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's failure to visit Geneva to attend the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting, describing him as "cunning".

Borrell claimed earlier that the European Union did not prevent Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov from traveling to attend a meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Zakharova accused Borrel on her Telegram channel of spreading malicious lies regarding Lavrov's attendance at the Geneva council. She mentioned that when the countries refused to allow the delegation to travel to Geneva, because of the EU restrictions, Borrell said that it was a sovereign decision.

'Russia is ending the war'

Yesterday, the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson was confident that the NATO and Western public's silence on the situation in Donbass had resulted in a humanitarian and political disaster in Europe.

"NATO’s experiments and the deafening silence of the Western public - these are the reasons behind the humanitarian and political disaster in Europe. An end was to be put to this since the West refused to conduct any negotiations whatsoever and welcomed aggressive statements and direct threats of Kiev puppets towards Russia," the diplomat wrote on her Telegram channel.

Russia did not launch a war, it is ending it, Zakharova stressed. Throughout these years, the Russian side was urging the global community to stand against the consistent annihilation of the Donbass population. "These are millions of people, who were losing their loved ones every day, living in basements to flee the shelling," she added.

She stressed that none among those who are ‘yelling now’ in ‘civilized countries’ has ever rallied to support the population of Donetsk and Lugansk with the demand to stop the bloodshed.

"The world was silent. Submissive silence of the global community and their disregard for the bloody catastrophe resulting from the anti-constitutional coup in Ukraine in 2014, staged with the direct participation of the US, the EU, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, and other NATO countries, simply encouraged the Kiev regime to continue to destroy their own population," Zakharova stressed.
