Russian PM to meet with Iran's Pezeshkian in Tehran
Russia announced the two sides will discuss "the full range of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the trade and economic and cultural and humanitarian spheres."
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is set to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on Monday.
The announcement follows Russia's condemnation of "Israel's" assassination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon.
Mishustin will meet with Pezeshkian and First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, according to a government release.
Russia announced that the two sides will discuss "the full range of Russian-Iranian cooperation in the trade and economic and cultural and humanitarian spheres."
The talks would focus on "large joint projects in fields involving transportation, energy, industry, and agriculture," according to the statement.
Western nations have accused Iran of supplying Moscow with drones and missiles amid the war in Ukraine, an allegation Tehran has frequently denied.
Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on his travel to Russia next month for the BRICS meeting.
On September 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed the "strategic" partnership between Russia and Iran, highlighting that their friendly relations have grown increasingly in recent years.
Putin made these comments while hosting Ali-Akbar Ahmadian, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, at the Konstantinovsky Palace in St. Petersburg. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 14th summit of BRICS high-ranking security officials.
The Russian President attributed the growth of Tehran-Moscow relations to the support of Iranian Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, requesting that Ahmadian convey his warmest regards to the Leader.
Putin said that Russia is looking forward to Pezeshkian's upcoming visit, during which a joint comprehensive cooperation agreement between the two nations is expected to be signed.
Highlighting that trade between Russia and Iran increased by almost 10% in the first half of 2024, Putin emphasized Russia's strong commitment to collaborating with Iran across all sectors.
