Saudi King Salman sends Iran's Pezeshkian a letter on bilateral ties
A letter by Saudi Arabia's King has been delivered to Iran's president by his minister of state, during the latter's swearing-in ceremony in Tehran.
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent Thursday Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian a written letter regarding bilateral relations between both countries.
The letter was delivered by Minister of State Prince Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdulaziz during his visit to Tehran to participate in the Iranian president's swearing-in ceremony, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prince Mansour and his delegation met with Pezeshkian and delivered greetings from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the new Iranian president. He also extended wishes for continued progress and prosperity for Iran's government and people.
The meeting was also attended by Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji and Saudi Ambassador to Tehran, Abdullah bin Saud Al-Anzi. Iran’s Interim Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani and several other officials were present as well.
Iran, Saudi Arabia aim to deepen bilateral relations
Last month, Bagheri Kani met with Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji in Tehran to discuss the further enhancement of the countries' bilateral relations. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 19th Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) ministerial meeting.
“We believe that there should be no obstacle in the way of this process,” Bagheri Kani said, emphasizing the countries' determination to strengthen ties in various areas.
For his part, El-Khereiji underlined that Iran and Saudi Arabia share several commonalities, especially history and culture, stressing these facets as additional incentives to promote and strengthen diplomatic relations between the nations.
After seven years of strained ties, Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to restore diplomatic relations and reopen missions in respective countries after a series of talks brokered in Beijing, China, under the auspices of Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2023.
