Sayyed Khamenei inaugurates 12th Iranian parliament with message
Iranian leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei emphasized the importance of national interests, fiscal responsibility, and intergovernmental cooperation, reminding new lawmakers of their serious commitment.
The leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic of Iran Sayyed Ali Khamenei inaugurated Iran’s 12th parliament with a message reaffirming the significance of holding onto and strengthening the country's religious popular sovereignty.
In his Monday address, Sayyed Khamenei emphasized that every member of parliament represents the entire nation and should prioritize national interests.
He cautioned against approving development plans that exceed the budget and urged lawmakers to cooperate with other government branches and adopt a patient, collective approach.
At the inaugural session, attended by top Iranian officials and foreign guests, 290 lawmakers were sworn in.
It is important to note that elected members are set to serve for four years as part of the legislative body.
The election was held in two rounds, one on March 1st and the second on May 10th.
Winners of Iran's run-off parliamentary elections announced
The spokesperson for Iran's Interior Ministry election headquarters has confirmed the candidates who won in the run-off parliamentary elections that took place on May 10.
Mohsen Eslami announced the names of the 45 winners, with Bijan Nobaveh, Mohammad Seraj, and Abolfazl Zohrevand emerging as the top candidates in Tehran, securing a four-year term in the Iranian Parliament, known as the Majlis, which comprises 290 seats elected directly by the people.
A total of 90 candidates were competing for the 45 remaining seats in the parliament during the run-off elections held in 22 constituencies.
With the announcement, all 30 seats designated to the Tehran constituency in the new parliament have now been filled, with the remaining 14 seats determined in the first round that was held on March 1.
The governor of Tehran mentioned that approximately 3,700 electronic voting machines were available in Tehran Province's polling stations, including 311 mobile voting machines deployed to hospitals, military bases, and university dormitories.
