Senior Iranian intelligence officer assassinated in southern Iran
The assailant responsible for the explosion was killed in the blast.
A senior intelligence police officer in southern Iran, Mojtaba Shahidi, was killed on Saturday evening in a targeted attack involving an explosive device, according to media reports.
Shahidi, who served as the police force's chief of intelligence in Bandar Lengeh, Hormozgan Province, was approached by an assailant while driving his vehicle.
After stopping and exiting the car, an explosive device was detonated, causing a powerful blast.
Shahidi suffered critical injuries to his head, neck, chest, and face and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The attack also injured his companion, the deputy head of intelligence police in Bandar Lengeh, who is currently undergoing surgery for injuries to his head and face.
The assailant responsible for the explosion was killed in the blast. As of now, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This incident follows a recent spate of terrorist activities in Iran. In October, ten Iranian border guards were killed in Sistan and Baluchestan province near the Pakistan border.
The Jaish al-Adl terrorist group, based in Pakistan, later claimed responsibility for that attack.
Security forces are on high alert as investigations into the latest incident continue.
