Sharaf to Al-Mayadeen: Escalation Result of Failure of Saudi's Pressures on Sanaa
The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Sanaa government, Hisham Sharaf, explained to Al Mayadeen that "the repeated bombings in the same places since the beginning of the aggression till now translate in helplessness.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Sanaa, Hisham Sharaf, explained to Al Mayadeen that "the current escalation in a number of fronts comes because the Saudi coalition has been convinced that it had failed in its attempts to pressure Sanaa."
Sharaf stressed that "they should know that we are fighting for the sake of the Yemeni people, not for the sake of particular parties or sides in this fight," adding that "the dignity of the Yemeni people is what matters, and no matter how much they escalate, we are ready to respond."
Sharaf said that "the repeated bombings of the same places since the beginning of the aggression till now translate in helplessness," noting that "the policy of pressure has failed in many countries from Vietnam to other places."
He added: "We extend our hand for peace, but for a just peace, open Sanaa airport and the ports, and there will be signs of peace. However, moving towards peace while they bomb us will not help."
In his conversation with Al Mayadeen, Sharaf also pointed out that "Sanaa International Airport is a civilian airport; there is a military base called al-Dailami, and the airport has nothing to do with the airbase," stressing that "the bombing of Sanaa airport means that they do not want to normalize the situation in Yemen or go towards peace."
Sharaf commented on the arrest of US embassy employees, explaining that "the relevant security authorities are the ones dealing with this issue, which should not be given more importance than it deserves."
He then stressed that "we did not kill or insult anyone's dignity, and if anything happens, we would discuss it among us. They should not take it as an excuse for further escalation."
He continued, "Our problem with some countries is that are either trying to impose their viewpoint or dictate it by telling us that they follow up on what is happening," stressing that "there are paradoxes with the US side, which we are ready to discuss to avoid any escalations, but on the other hand, we are and will continue to follow the diplomacy of steadfastness and attack that preserve Yemen’s dignity."
Sharaf also stressed that "we do not accept guardianship, neither from Saudi Arabia or the Emirates, nor from any other country, and therefore we will continue our efforts despite all obstacles."
According to the foreign minister of the Sanaa government, “the policy of interests is what has affected humanity and the issues of vulnerable nations. If we were an oil-producing or arms buying country, some would stand with us and others against us. The world is a world of interests, not of ethics and principles.”
