Spirit of resistance to strengthen after martyr Sinwar: Iran UN envoy
Iran's Ambassador to the UN reiterates his country's ongoing support for resistance forces defending their land and people against occupation.
The spirit of resistance will be strengthened following the martyrdom of Yahya Sinwar, the head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, underlined the Iranian mission to the United Nations on Friday.
On October 17, 2024, the Israeli occupation military claimed that it "eliminated" Sinwar in an operation in the southern Gaza Strip, though Hamas has not confirmed his martyrdom.
The Iranian mission stated that the resistance will endure, as the martyr remains a source of inspiration. It highlighted that martyr Sinwar will serve as a role model for the youth and children who will carry on his legacy in the fight for Palestine's liberation.

In a related context, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, firmly rejected the allegations from the Israeli occupation regarding Iran's supposed violations of international law and the United Nations Charter, emphasizing that these claims are entirely unfounded.
In a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the President of the Security Council, Pascale Christian, he said that "Israel's occupying and apartheid regime has flagrantly and systematically violated international law, committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide against the innocent Palestinian people of Gaza, all with complete impunity."
He called on the international community, especially the Security Council, to hold the Israeli occupation entity accountable for its terrorist acts, noting that the Israeli attacks are pushing the entire region to the brink of war.
'Resistance against Israeli war crimes is legal'
Iravani stressed that "Israel’s actions are indisputable war crimes. The deliberate targeting of civilians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure including humanitarian and medical facilities, schools, and educational centers are not only violations of international law; they are war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts of genocide."
"The Security Council cannot remain silent in the face of these atrocities," he emphasized, asserting that the international community, especially the Security Council, must hold this regime accountable. The Iranian diplomat called for urgent and decisive actions to compel this entity to cease its attacks and crimes in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, and to ensure compliance with all relevant Security Council resolutions.
Iran's support for resistance forces is entirely legitimate under international law, Iravani asserted, reaffirming that this backing will persist as they defend their land and people against occupation and aggression. He highlighted that such support aligns with the principles of self-determination and the right to resist oppression.
'Israel publicaly violates international law, organizations'
The Iranian envoy recalled that the Israeli occupation entity, known for its continuous and flagrant violations of international law, the UN Charter, and Security Council resolutions, is the one that "in full view of the international community, tore up the UN Charter on the podium of the General Assembly, whose Foreign Minister recently declared the UN Secretary-General persona non grata, and whose military forces have shamelessly murdered UN personnel and humanitarian workers, and attacked peacekeepers with impunity. Such a regime utterly lacks the moral authority to accuse any other nation of violating international law."
He reiterated that Iran does not seek war or escalation of tension in the region, but is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any aggression.
"Iran will exercise its inherent right to self-defense, fully in accordance with international law, and will duly inform the Security Council of its legitimate and necessary response," Iravani underlined.
