The British police have classified the stabbing of British Conservative MP David Amess as a "terror attack".
The Counter-Terrorism Unit has been assigned to investigate his fatal stabbing, which took place during a campaign rally in a church in Essex in eastern England.
The police had confirmed arresting a suspect and found a knife at the scene.
No other individuals are being sought out in connection with the incident, said the police, revealing that the individual in custody is 25 years old.
The 69-year-old member of Parliament was targeted at noon during the meeting at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
According to the deputy chair of the local Conservative club in Sir David's constituency, the MP had been "stabbed three times."
Amess had been an MP since 1983 and is married with 5 children. He is the second member of Parliament to be killed in the past 5 years. Labour MP Jo Cox was also fatally shot in 2016, days before the Brexit referendum.
