Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad arrives in Saudi Arabia
A Syrian delegation headed by Faisal al-Miqdad arrives in Riyadh to take part in a meeting of Arab-Pacific States.
A Syrian delegation headed by Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad arrived in Jeddah on Sunday upon an invitation of his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, to attend the second ministerial meeting of the Arab states and the Pacific islands countries.
This comes shortly after Saudi Arabia and Syria resumed the work of diplomatic missions in both countries following Damascus' return to the Arab League.
At the time, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad held talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman (MBS) following the conclusion of the 32nd Arab League summit that was held in the Saudi city of Jeddah.
Al-Assad and MBS discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and developments in the Arab region "in light of the positive atmosphere in inter-Arab relations that reflects a collective approach toward common visions that culminated in the Jeddah summit."
On April 18, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan arrived in Damascus to meet with President Bashar al-Assad less than a week after al-Miqdad visited Saudi Arabia, on the first such trip since the outbreak of the war in Syria.
Over the past few months, there has been increasing Saudi engagement with Syrian President al-Assad and Damascus.
