Trump's 'Border Czar' reveals 4,000+ immigrants deported in a week
The Trump administration reveals that over 4,000 undocumented immigrants have been deported a week into Trump's presidency.
US immigration authorities, under the Trump administration, have deported over 4,000 undocumented immigrants in a single week since the raids began, the president's "border czar" Tom Homan stated on Wednesday.
During an interview with NewsNation, Homan said "We've been at this one week, and we're over 4,000 [deportations], which is amazing."
Homan also announced plans to increase the number of teams involved in raids and deportations, focusing on roughly 700,000 undocumented immigrants with alleged criminal records.
According to media reports, the launch of immigration raids in the United States has led to a noticeable decline in activity at construction sites, shopping centers, and other locations commonly visited by undocumented immigrants.
Trump previously relayed his intentions to significantly intensify immigration enforcement nationwide shortly after his inauguration, Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with the plans.
"We’re going to be doing operations all across the country," the source told Reuters on Friday. "You’re going to see arrests in New York. You’re going to see arrests in Miami."
Newark mayor slams warrantless immigration raid as 'terrorizing'
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka condemned a warrantless immigration raid in the city that resulted in the detention of both "undocumented residents and citizens," The Guardian reported on Friday.
Baraka stated that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had conducted a raid at a local business. "Newark will not stand by idly while people are being unlawfully terrorized," he said in a statement.
The announcement comes as major cities across the United States prepare for ICE raids, following warnings from Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, who emphasized the federal government’s commitment to Trump’s promise of "mass deportations" with sanctuary cities—jurisdictions that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement—being key targets.
In a Thursday update, ICE reported a total of 538 arrests.
Hundreds of illegal migrants were arrested and deported in a massive operation that came just three days after the new administration was sworn in.
Under the pretext of "criminality", White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the US authorities have arrested 538 illegal migrants and deported hundreds using a military aircraft.
