Tunisia denies reports about diplomatic talks with "Israel"
The Tunisian FM says some websites affiliated with "Israel" have been spreading rumors in repeated attempts to harm Tunisia's image and its firm pro-Palestine stances.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad denied Thursday news about diplomatic talks between Tunisia and the Israeli occupation, describing them as false allegations.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the Ministry stressed that it denies false allegations circulated by some websites affiliated with the Israeli occupation about ongoing diplomatic talks with Tunisia.
The Ministry pointed out that these websites have been spreading these rumors in repeated attempts to harm the image of Tunisia and its firm pro-Palestine position.
The Ministry's statement affirmed that Tunisia is not interested in establishing diplomatic relations with the Israeli occupation, stressing that the country - on the official and popular level and as stated by Tunisian President Kais Saied - will always support the Palestinian people in their struggle until their legitimate rights are restored, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital.
The Tunisian stance comes as the Israeli newspaper "Israel" Hayom published a report quoting a diplomatic official as saying that "expanding the sphere of countries that have ties with Israel has been a consistent Israeli goal, but it is also true that Algeria is still showing a hostile attitude [toward this effort]."
The newspaper cited Miryam Guez-Avigal, the chairwoman of the World Federation of Tunisian Jewry in "Israel", as saying that Tunisia is a moderate and relatively advanced country, but there is strong Islamist opposition against any normalization with "Israel".
Guez-Avigal said that although some say that Tunisian President Kais Saied is interested in getting closer to "Israel", the Islamist opposition has remained strong and is apparently a significant deterrent in this regard.
