Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan issued a warning on Friday that "Israel's" ongoing war on Gaza and across the Palestinian territories threatens to escalate into a broader regional war unless halted.
During an extraordinary session of the Turkish parliament on Gaza, Fidan declared that "Israel", by "committing genocide in Gaza for the past two years, ignoring basic humanitarian values right before the world’s eyes," has violated all norms of human rights.
He stated that Türkiye has cut off all trade ties with "Israel", closed its airspace to Israeli aircraft, and banned Turkish ships from Israeli ports.
Ankara rejects displacement of Palestinians
Fidan emphasized that Ankara opposes any proposal for the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, which it calls “invalid”, adding that the atrocity crimes of "Israel" in the Strip "have been recorded as one of the darkest chapters in human history."
The Turkish foreign minister characterized the Palestinian Resistance as a historic fight that would redefine global power structures, serve as an inspiration for subjugated people everywhere, and fundamentally disrupt an outdated and corrupt international system.
Fidan further condemned "Israel’s" broader regional strikes, describing its attacks on Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and Iran as reckless and labeling them the clearest indication of a terrorist entity's mentality that openly defies the international order.
When it comes to Syria, especially, Fidan asserted that Türkiye “will not allow Syria’s ancient and valuable communities to be exploited" for the goal of destroying Syria's territorial integrity.
During the session, Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş called for "concrete steps" against "Israel", including suspending its memberships in international organizations such as the UN, until it abandons "genocidal policies".
