Two servicemen affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) were killed and three others injured on Monday when a member of a terror organization launched a grenade attack on an IRGC base in the western province of Kurdistan.
According to the IRGC's Kurdistan division, the attack occurred in Sarv-Abad County, when an armed terrorist affiliated with foreign-backed elements targeted one of the Corps' bases using a hand grenade. The assault resulted in the martyrdom of Ali-Reza Valizadeh, a respected cleric, and Ayyoub Shiri, a member of the Basij volunteer forces. Three others sustained injuries and were immediately transferred to a local hospital for treatment.
The Corps’ Kurdistan division denounced the perpetrators as "merciless terrorists" and linked them to "the agents of the global arrogance." It expressed "deep sorrow and grief" over the incident, praising the martyrs for their "selfless sacrifices, devotion, and courage" that had contributed to the "exemplary security" prevailing across the country.
"The martyrdom and wounding of these valiant IRGC members is further proof of this truth," the statement added, extending condolences to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the families of the martyrs, and the Iranian nation.
The IRGC reiterated that such terrorist acts will not undermine the country’s security or the will of its defenders. The statement noted that Iran has frequently identified links between terrorist cells operating in its border regions and foreign intelligence services, which have sought to destabilize the Islamic Republic.
