Ukraine has received a new AI-powered “drone wall” system developed by the Western defense firm Atreyd, according to Business Insider. The technology consists of a swarm of explosive-laden first-person-view (FPV) drones launched automatically from ground platforms in response to perceived threats.
The system, reportedly delivered in full, is expected to become operational within weeks. According to Business Insider, the founder of Atreyd — who requested anonymity — confirmed the delivery and said the company anticipates its activation on the battlefield shortly.
This marks the first reported deployment of such a system in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
First use of ‘drone wall’ technology in Ukraine war
The “drone wall” includes dozens of FPV drones equipped with explosives. Once a threat is detected, the drones are launched en masse and controlled by artificial intelligence, creating a defensive barrier in the airspace.
Ukrainian forces are expected to integrate the system into frontline operations as Western support for drone warfare continues to expand.
Moscow has consistently criticized Western military support to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated that Western arms shipments, including advanced drone systems, contribute to prolonging the conflict and directly involve NATO member states.
Lavrov warned that any shipments containing weapons for Ukraine would be considered legitimate military targets by Russia.
