The Investigative Committee of Russia confirmed that Ukrainian forces opened fire on a Russian cargo ship named Sormovskiy 3064 in the Sea of Azov, with no injuries recorded among the crew.
The Committee stated that the cargo ship was 12 kilometers from the town of Shabelskoye in the waters of Sherbinovskaya district in the Russian Krasnodar region, as it was heading from Greece to the Russian city of Taganrog.
The Russian investigative authority indicated that it had opened an investigation about the incident.

It pointed out that a fire broke out in the ship's main leadership cabin as a result of the shooting, but the fire was controlled by the ship's crew, as the ship continued its sailing.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky announced earlier on Saturday that he was ready for negotiations with Russia, more than two weeks after Moscow launched a special military operation in the Donbass region.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin denounced the Ukrainian forces' "flagrant violation" of international humanitarian law, in phone talks he held with the French and German presidents, the Kremlin said.
During the talks, The Russian President called on French President Emmanual Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to influence Kiev with the aim of ending crimes committed by Ukrainian nationalist groups.
