UN calls human cost of war on Gaza 'unbearable', warns of extreme cold
Reiterating its urgent plea for a ceasefire in Gaza, UNRWA emphasizes the rise of civilian casualties and destruction of residential infrastructure.
The United Nations has issued an alert on one million displaced Palestinians in Gaza who are experiencing acute winter conditions.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) warned on Sunday that almost one million displaced Palestinians in war-torn Gaza face harsh cold and rain this winter.
"Displaced people in Gaza need protection from the rain and cold. Only around 23 percent of this need has been met, leaving 945,000 people at risk of exposure this winter," UNRWA said in a statement.
Palestinians in Gaza "search through the rubble of their destroyed homes, trying to salvage what little remains after an Israeli airstrike," UNRWA reported.
The temperature drop brings illnesses and floods of rain and sewage.
Reiterating its urgent plea for a ceasefire in Gaza, the agency emphasized the rise of civilian casualties and destruction of residential infrastructure, adding that the "human cost of this war is unbearable."
According to the UN, virtually all of Gaza's 2.3 million people have been displaced, with 90% of those in shelters living in tents.
Shaima Issa, a displaced citizen in Gaza, told a reporter in Khan Younis that everyone surrounding her and her children is "sick and coughing," describing how they are basically "living on the streets surrounded by strips of fabric."
Salwa Abu Nimer, her neighbor, expressed that they are flooded by rain with no water protection on their roofs.
“No flour, no food, no drink, no shelter,” she added. “What is this life I’m living? I go to the ends of the earth just to feed my children.”
'Israel' bombs Indonesian Hospital, continues genocide in Gaza
As part of their deliberate systematic attacks on Gaza's health sector, Israeli occupation forces targeted the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza on Sunday, injuring six patients, one critically.
Following the aggression on the hospital, the Palestinian Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip called for international protection for hospitals, medical staff, and patients, and urged the creation of safe corridors and the provision of essential medical supplies, fuel, and logistical support,
The ministry also demanded safe evacuations for the injured.
This comes as the Israeli occupation continues its aggression on the Strip unabated and without accountability.
Israeli occupation airstrikes targeted a tent sheltering displaced people in the town of al-Zawayda in central Gaza, resulting in several martyrs and injuries.
In Rafah, southern Gaza, six were martyred and several were injured following an Israeli attack on a tuk-tuk and a vehicle in the al-Adas area.
