The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Wednesday denounced what it described as one of the gravest assaults on its personnel since last November’s ceasefire, after Israeli drones dropped grenades near peacekeepers operating in the south.
According to a UNIFIL statement, four grenades were released by Israeli drones on Tuesday morning, landing close to a group of peacekeepers working to clear roadblocks that were obstructing access to a UN position.
“This is one of the most serious attacks on UNIFIL personnel and assets since the cessation of hostilities agreement of last November,” the mission said.
UNIFIL did not report any casualties but underscored the gravity of the incident, warning that such attacks directly threaten the safety of peacekeepers and undermine the mission’s ability to carry out its mandate.
Concurrently, Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in southern Lebanon reported that Israeli invading units launched a dawn raid into the town of Aitaroun, where they destroyed a farm located on the town’s outskirts.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent further reported that an Israeli drone dropped a bomb on a group of civilians in the town of Houla. The individuals were reportedly using a tractor to transport household furniture when the drone targeted them.
Additionally, Israeli artillery shelled the Jabal Sadana area on the outskirts of the town of Shebaa, our correspondent added.
Not an isolated incident
Southern Lebanon was rocked by a new wave of Israeli airstrikes last Sunday, as the Israeli occupation intensified its aerial assault on multiple locations across the Nabatieh Governorate, including the highlands of Ali al-Taher and al-Dabsha, as well as the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa and Kfar Tibnit, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent.
The Israeli occupation forces also launched intensive fire belts in the mountainous region of Ali al-Taher, further endangering civilians in the surrounding areas of Nabatieh al-Fawqa. Israeli warplanes returned repeatedly to bomb the same targets in rapid succession.
Simultaneously, the skies above the targeted zones witnessed a heavy presence of Israeli surveillance and attack drones, raising further alarm among local residents.
An Israeli drone strike hit a residential home in the border town of Aita al-Shaab, also in southern Lebanon. The scale of damage and casualties from the strike has yet to be confirmed.
Last Friday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that one Lebanese citizen was killed in yet another Israeli violation, striking this time a vehicle in the Nabatieh district, southern Lebanon.
In detail, an Israeli drone struck a civilian car in the town of Sir al-Gharbiyeh, in the Nabatieh district of South Lebanon, killing its driver.
Last Thursday, Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of airstrikes on the outskirts of the southern towns of al-Qatrani, al-Jarmaq, and al-Mahmoudiyah. An Israeli drone also dropped four bombs on Kfar Kila, one of which struck a municipal vehicle, causing material damage.
Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces stationed at Roueissat al-Alam position opened fire toward the outskirts of Kfar Chouba.
Another Israeli airstrike targeted the Jabbour Heights in Western Bekaa, in the Bekaa governorate.
The Israeli attacks come amid continuing Israeli violations across different parts of Lebanon, despite the ceasefire announced on November 27, 2024.
