UNSC should sanction' Israel': Araghchi
Araghchi urged the international community to take strong measures against the occupation, citing that the UNSC has a "duty to take action...and impose severe sanctions against that regime based on the Seventh Chapter of the United Nations Charter."
According to Iran's Foreign Minister, the Security Council has a duty to impose tough sanctions in response to the Zionist regime's insistence on war and carnage in Gaza and Lebanon.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday during a meeting with heads of foreign missions in Tehran that the ongoing genocide in Gaza and aggression on Lebanon and Syria, in addition to the Israeli occupation's "military adventures" in other areas, threaten international peace and security.
Araghchi urged the international community to take strong measures against the occupation, citing that the UNSC has a "duty to take action" as the regime is determined to continue war and bloodshed "and impose severe sanctions against that regime based on the Seventh Chapter of the United Nations Charter."
The diplomat continued by stating, "In the current critical and sensitive period, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the necessity of collective diplomatic efforts to stop the aggression and crimes of the Zionist regime."
Araghchi emphasized that Iran is urging immediate action to halt the attacks and murder of innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon and to urgently address the critical situation of people and refugees by facilitating relief and humanitarian aid in the region.
Iran at UNSC: Israeli aggression part of broader plan of impunity
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convened for an emergency meeting on Monday, to discuss the recent Israeli strike against Iran, following a request by Tehran, which was supported by China, Russia, and Algeria.
Iranian UN Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani described the session as "both timely and necessary," citing an "egregious and severe violation of international law and the UN Charter" by the Israeli regime.
He emphasized that this aggression is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of impunity, enabled by the United States' "unconditional support," to the Israeli regime's crimes. Iravani said that this has "emboldened" the occupation to "persist" with carrying out such brutal policies.
He pointed to the "ethnic cleansing and war crimes" committed by the Israeli occupation in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, urging the Security Council to take decisive measures to restore peace and authority in the region.
"Responsibility requires more than words and recommendations," he stressed, insisting that the international community must not remain silent in the face of these violations and take action.
UN official urges states to halt arms to 'Israel' over Gaza violations
Ben Saul, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in counter-terrorism, denounced Monday "Israel's" military actions in Gaza, urging states to end their weapons provisions to the occupation regime due to violations of humanitarian law.
During a news conference in New York, Saul emphasized "a pattern of deliberate indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks harming large numbers of civilians" by the Israeli occupation forces.
He pointed to "Israel's" use of "high explosive munitions in densely populated areas, which by nature cannot distinguish between civilians and military targets," as well as its use of famine and denial of food relief as "weapons of war."
Citing concerns over "Israel's" violations of international standards, Saul renewed his appeal "on all States not to provide weapons or munitions to Israel, because that would breach the obligation of other states to ensure respect for humanitarian law."
He also voiced dissatisfaction with "Israel's" failure to heed repeated demands from international organizations to follow humanitarian law.

"Unfortunately, Israel hasn't taken the message from the Security Council, the International Court of Justice, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, many governments, the General Assembly, and the Human Rights Council," he stated.
