US Central Command confirms that the al-Tanf base was targeted by a drones attack, and affirms that it will "defend itself" at "any time and place" of its choosing.
The US Central Command announced on Thursday that al-Tanf base located on Syria's border with Iraq and Jordan was subjected to a "deliberate and coordinated attack" by drones, confirming that there were no casualties among the US forces.
In a statement, the Central Command said that it is currently investigating the attack and affirmed that it affirms that it will "defend itself" at "any time and place" of its choosing.
Field sources confirmed to Al Mayadeen that the al-Tanf base, where American and British forces are located, was subjected to a missile attack, which led to material damage, with no reported information about losses or injuries among the coalition members in the area.
According to the sources, the area witnessed an overflight of drones in conjunction with the missile bombing, without any details about its participation in the bombing.
The base observed a state of confusion and redeployment among the members of the international coalition fearing a new wave of bombing, the sources mentioned.
CNN quoted a US military source as saying that the initial assessment indicated that there were no casualties as a result of the bombing.
A US official confirmed to AFP that an attack had taken place at the base. "We know of no casualties,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
Al-Tanf military base is located in the desert in southern Syria and was established by the US-led coalition in 2016 as part of its so-called war against ISIS.

This comes days after Syrian military sites in the eastern countryside of Homs were targeted by Israeli missile aggression.
Syrian allies' Operation Room confirmed afterward that it had taken a decision to "respond harshly" to the aggression against Palmyra, which was launched through the sky of Jordan and the occupied Syrian area of al-Tanf.
