US detained 2 million migrant throughout 2021
US Customs and Border Protection figures reveal that more than 2 million migrants were detained trying to cross the Mexican border in 2021.
US authorities stopped around 180,000 migrants attempting to cross the border from Mexico in December 2021, marking a 2% increase in migrant inflow from November.
Official figures show that a record of more than 2 million immigrants were detained at the border in 2021.
Republicans accused US President Joe Biden of having created a “historic humanitarian crisis”.
Republican National Committee chairperson Ronna McDaniel said, attacking Democrats "On their watch, cartels and smugglers are thriving, border officials are overwhelmed, our communities are less safe.”
Biden’s arrival to the White House came with promises of a more human approach toward migrants, which led to an increase in the flows of immigrants trying to cross the US-Mexico border. Nevertheless, Biden immediately displayed a radically different approach, treating immigrants in the same fashion, if not even worse, than his openly-racist Republican predecessor Donald Trump.
Biden's Vice President Kamal Harris previously made headlines by telling Guatemalan refugees on the US-Mexican borders "Do not come to US." The controversial VP then added: "If you come to our border, you will be turned back."
no really, what are the differences between #Republicans and #Democrats?

Haitians file lawsuit against US government over migrant treatment
A group of Haitian migrants filed a federal class-action lawsuit on December 20 against the US government, following their "humiliating" experience at the US border with Mexico in Del Rio, Texas.
The experience with Border Patrol agents, who were on horseback, gained infamy as a result of the agents' use of violence.
The lawsuit included a statement by one of the plaintiffs, Mirard Joseph, who said Border Patrol agents on horseback lashed at him.

“To see people treated like they did, horses barely running them over and people being strapped. It was outrageous,” US President Joe Biden said at the time. “I promise those people will pay,” yet nothing has materialized so far.
Joseph, the man pictured being grabbed by the shirt by a Border Patrol agent, said the encounter was the "most humiliating experience of my life."
The lawsuit accused the Biden administration of failing to prepare for the migrant influx, despite being aware of their arrival. It also places responsibility on the government for the physical and verbal abuse of the migrants, and failure to provide due process because of Title 42.
