US representative to UN: Expelling Russia from UNSC will be impossible
Some isolative measures are defunct upon arrival.
The US representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said that expelling Russia from the United Nations Security Council will be impossible, although Western countries will do the maximum to isolate Moscow.
"The Security Council was created as a product of the creation of the UN after World War II. They are a member of the Security Council. That’s a fact. We can’t change that fact, but we certainly can isolate them in the Security Council. We can make their presence in that body very uncomfortable," she told MSNBC.
Washington and its allies, according to Thomas-Greenfield, have been working to exclude Russia from the UN human rights council.
In late February, Ukraine appealed to the United Nations General Assembly to oust Russia from the UN.
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's Parliament, registered a draft resolution that appeals to the UN General Assembly to exclude Russia from the UN.
The Rada has also submitted a draft resolution requesting that Russia be excluded from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Another proposal calls for Russia to be expelled from the Council of Europe.
