US Under Sec. Nuland to resign in coming weeks, Blinken says
Due to her contributions in sparking the war and destruction of Ukraine, Nuland has been often described as "the architect" or "the driving force of the conflict in Ukraine and helped it to begin."
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Tuesday that Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland is planning to step down in the coming weeks.
"Victoria Nuland has let me know that she intends to step down in the coming weeks as Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs," Blinken said in a statement, adding that the State Department is grateful for Nuland’s service, and "for the lasting mark she’s made on this institution and the world."
Until Nuland's replacement is confirmed, John Bass, the Under Secretary for Management, will act as the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.
In reaction to the news, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Tuesday said that Nuland's resignation is linked to the US' failure in its anti-Russian policy.
"They will not tell you the reason. But it is simple — the failure of the anti-Russian policy of [US President Joe] Biden’s administration. Russophobia, proposed by Victoria Nuland as the main foreign policy concept of the United States, is dragging the Democrats to the bottom like a stone," Zakharova told a briefing.

Due to her contributions in sparking the war in Ukraine, Nuland has been often described as "the architect" or "the driving force of the conflict in Ukraine and helped it to begin."
Following the questionable death of Alexei Navalny on February 16, for which the US unfoundedly accused Russia, Nuland was the first to announce the introduction of sanctions against Russia, calling them "crushing".
It is worth noting that in February of last year, Nuland promised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a Nobel Peace Prize if he succeeded in persuading Russian President Vladimir Putin to withdraw troops from Ukraine.
Netanyahu is currently engaged in a genocidal campaign on the people of Gaza.
