This comes after in June, US officials announced that the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, which was dispatched to the Red Sea to counter the Yemeni Armed Forces' operations in support of Gaza, was ordered to return home amid its failure to carry out the mission it was dispatched to the region for and after coming under attack by the Yemeni Armed Forces.
On May 31, the spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF), Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced that the YAF targeted the flagship of the United States Carrier Strike Group 2, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, in response to multiple American-British strikes on Yemen.
The YAF's Rocket Force and Navy launched a composite strike on the aircraft carrier, he detailed.
The strike consisted of multiple anti-ship ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, which dealt direct and precise hits to the USS Eisenhower, Saree explained.
The YAF's attack on US Navy assets deployed in the region was in response to 13 airstrikes that targeted both civilian and military areas across Yemen, leading to 58 casualties.
Eisenhower reportedly returned to Norfolk in the state of Virginia, according to what the US Naval Institute’s news service mentioned, citing an anonymous official.
At the time, the reports added that the warship would be replaced by an aircraft carrier that would operate in the Pacific, with the closest known to be operating in Asia being either the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) or USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75).
