Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil held talks on Saturday to strengthen political, trade, investment, and scientific ties between their two countries, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced.
According to a statement, the discussions took place "in an atmosphere of trust," with both ministers praising the "dynamic development" of their bilateral relations and agreeing on plans to further deepen cooperation.
The two sides emphasized expanding political dialogue, boosting trade and investment, enhancing scientific and technical collaboration, and promoting cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
Pursuit of multipolarity
Moscow and Caracas reaffirmed their shared commitment to building a "truly multipolar world based on respect for states' sovereignty and equality and rejection of unilateral measures."
The ministry added that Lavrov and Gil outlined "further steps to deepen foreign policy coordination," including within the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter. Russia also reiterated its support for Venezuela’s efforts to ensure political stability domestically, particularly in addressing migration challenges.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Fourth Antalya Diplomacy Forum, held from April 11 to 13 at the NEST International Convention Center in Belek, Antalya.
Russia, Venezuela agree on strategic partnership, cooperation
In mid-March, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia and Venezuela had agreed on a strategic partnership and cooperation deal.
In a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro via video conference, the Russian leader expressed pleasure that a "strategic partnership and cooperation agreement has been fully agreed upon, which will create a good, solid foundation for further expansion of multifaceted ties in the long term."
"It could be signed during your visit to Russia at a time convenient for you," he told his Venezuelan counterpart.
