Washington secretly approves sending military aid to Ukraine
Politico reveals that the United States intends to provide a secret military aid package to Ukraine worth $200 million.
A report published by Politico revealed that US President Joe Biden's administration "quietly authorized an additional $200 million in security assistance to Ukraine."
The US security assistance package authorized transferring defensive equipment to Ukraine, including "smalls arms, and ammunition, secure radios, medical equipment, spare parts, and other equipment,” the report mentioned.
Ukrainian official sources mentioned that the US package to Ukraine will also include radar systems and some maritime equipment.
“Given that U.S. intelligence consistently suggests that Russia may launch a full-blown invasion using all its military might, this aid would allow Ukraine to inflict additional damage on Russia but would not significantly alter the outcome,” an advisor to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky told National Security Daily.
According to Politico, this is not the first time Biden uses his authority to quietly support Ukraine. In August, the US President said his administration would send military aid worth $60 million to Kiev.
A US State Department spokesperson told Politico that the US has been providing "defensive assistance to Ukraine, including through deliveries that have taken place in just the last few weeks."
"We will continue to do so in the weeks and months ahead through a range of mechanisms, including the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative," the spokesperson added.
This comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed Sunday on ABC News that the US has been "providing significant defensive assistance to Ukraine, including as recently as the last couple of weeks. Almost half a billion dollars this year alone."
In addition, several other countries such as Estonia, Germany, and Finland are waiting for US approval to probably send military aid to Kiev, the website reported.
It is noteworthy that Russia and the US held extensive talks a few days ago in Geneva, regarding the security guarantees that Russia demanded from the US and NATO.
Tensions around Ukraine have escalated in recent months, as Washington and Kiev's European allies claim Russia plans to invade Ukraine.
However, Russia has repeatedly denied the Western allegations of intending to invade its western neighbor, and Moscow's Foreign Intelligence Service accused the US State Department of spreading false information about Russia's alleged troop buildup.
