Yemen: More than 300 killed, wounded since the start of the truce
Mines, cluster bombs, and other remnants of the ongoing Saudi-led war continue to kill Yemenis.
The Executive Mine Action Center in Sanaa confirms the death and injury of 324 civilians since the truce took effect on April 2, 2022, as a result of mines, cluster bombs, and other remnants left behind by the Saudi-led coalition.
In a statement, the Center confirmed the death of 108 citizens and the injury of 216, as a result of mines, cluster bombs, and other remnants of war, pointing to a particular increase in casualties due to the latter with the spread of pollution and the return of the displaced to different areas only not to find the humanitarian aid and assistance they were promised.
The Center renewed calls for supplies to clear areas in Yemen of mines and cluster bombs.
According to the Center, the cluster bombs that the Saudi coalition scattered in Yemeni areas caused the largest share of the casualties, whereby the casualties reached 75 citizens, including 18 martyrs and 57 wounded.
It is noteworthy that last August, Grundberg said in a statement, "I am pleased to announce that the parties have agreed to extend the truce, under the same terms, for an additional two months, from 2 August 2022 until 2 October 2022. This truce extension includes a commitment from the parties to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded truce agreement as soon as possible."
"The expanded truce proposal would provide for reaching an agreement on a transparent and effective disbursement mechanism for the regular payment of civil servant salaries and civilian pensions, the opening of roads in Taiz and other governorates, opening additional destinations to and from Sana’a International Airport, and providing fuel and its regular flow of fuel to the ports of Hudaydah," he added.
It is noteworthy that the truce announced between the Saudi coalition and the Sanaa government entered into force on April 2 and was extended on June 2, the first time, and then on August 2, the second time.
