Messi signs a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain
Argentine Lionel Messi, the former Barcelona football player, took a step towards cryptocurrency.
After leaving Barcelona and signing with the renowned French team Paris Saint-Germain, Messi will be receiving an amount of PSG fan tokens, as part of his two-year contract, according to the club.
Owners of the PSG fan tokens have the privilege of naming the year's best goal, the player who wins the year-end team award, and the motivational message that appears on the dressing room wall.
The fan tokens offered to Messi are a part of the 34-year-old’s two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain that reportedly ranges between €25 million and €30 million ($25.3 million to $35.2 million), knowing that the deal includes an optional third year at the same rate, according to Reuters.
The big batch of fan tokens paves the way for a new way of getting paid via cryptocurrency in professional sports and elsewhere.
