Lionel Messi's home debut with Paris Saint-Germain saw the French team winning the Ligue 1 match against Lyon 2-1, although the Argentine star had nothing to do with the goals.

Messi overshone his teammates in PSG's all-star attack for the majority of the game. However, the star did not score any goals, as he was benched in favor of Icardi, who scored the tie-breaker at the death to secure PSG's win that looked extremely unlikely.

Lyon was ahead of PSG since 54' when Lucas Paqueta scored for his team. The score was in favor of Lyon until 68' when Neymar scored a penalty shot that tied the game that lasted until the very last seconds of it.

Messi is yet to score for PSG, who continued their six-out-of-six win streak, making for a perfect start to the Ligue 1 season.

PSG is at the top of the standings, five points ahead of Marseille, who have a game in hand.

This was Lionel Messi's first match in Le Parc des Princes, PSG's home stadium, since his singing of a 2 year contract with the French team.

The Argentine superstar had to leave his club, FC Barcelona, which he had played for since the beginning of his professional career at the young age of 17 in 2004. The reason for this departure was stated as structural and financial obstacles, ending the football legend's wonderful run with the Spanish A-list club that saw both parties reaping high-ranking rewards and benefits from the football association.
