According to AFP, in a ceremony in Paris on Monday, Lionel Messi has won the Ballon D'or award, breaking the record for the seventh time.

The 34-year-old won the previous awards held in October 2019. The 2020 Ballon d'Or did not take place due to the pandemic.

Messi previously won the Copa del Rey with Barcelona, and was captain for Argentina, helping them win Copa-America. Barcelona lost the legendary player after the expiration of his contract with the club in June 2021 to move free of charge to Paris Saint-Germain.
