After being accused of rape, Nepalese cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane, 22, received an arrest warrant from the Kathmandu District Court.

The cricketer has been accused of raping a minor before he left Nepal in August.

A case was filed against Lamichhane on Tuesday at the Gaushala Police Circle, after which the police requested a warrant which was granted later on.

“The district court has issued an arrest warrant for Lamichhane who has been accused of raping a minor,” the police officer was quoted as saying by CricTracker.

The complaint included that the cricketer raped her on the evening of August 22, in a Kathmandu hotel, and on the morning of the following day, he left for Kenya.

The minor, who is 17 years old, underwent the necessary medical examination and is protected by the police in the meantime.

AIG Rabindra Singh Dhanuk of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office announced that "a rape complaint has been filed against Sandeep Lamichhane. It’s a minor’s complaint, I will give further details regarding this tomorrow. The victim’s health check-up has also been performed this evening."

The Nepal Cricket Association, so far, has not addressed the issue and made no statement. Lamichhane, also, has not made any statement regarding the accusations.
