Paris FC, Lyon suspended from French Cup for fans' violence
After Friday's quarrel between Paris FC and Lyon fans which lead to the halt of the match, the two football teams got kicked out of the French Cup.
Paris FC and Lyon were thrown out of the French Cup on Monday due to the hooliganism that forced the December 17 game to finish off with a tie, calling it off half-time.
The teams were all square at 1-1 in Paris, when football fans ran into the pitch, followed by incidents in the stands.
The match was not finished; however, instead, the disciplinary commission of the French Football Federation expelled and fined both teams.
Second-division Paris FC was fined $11,320, while Lyon was fined $58,900.
The mess
On Friday, the French Cup tie between Paris FC and Lyon was interrupted by ruckus between the fans on the stands. During the break, flares were exchanged between Paris and Lyon fans at Charletty stadium, in addition to the explosion of homemade fireworks.
Referee and football players returned to their dressing room, security and police rushed to calm the situation as spectators scurried onto the pitch, leading the match to a halt.
After police intervention, the fans returned to the stand ten minutes later. However, the match was never resumed.
