Reigning champions Algeria bid farewell to Africa Cup of Nations
The holder of the Africa Cup of Nations Championship title bid farewell to the tournament after losing to Ivory Coast, while Equatorial Guinea qualified for the second round.
Algeria, the titleholder of the former championship, is out from the Africa Cup of Nations, after losing today, Thursday, to Ivory Coast, in the third and final round of the group stage.
The Ivory Coast team ended the first half with two goals without a response, as it advanced through Franck Kissier in the 22nd minute and consolidated its lead with the goal of Ibrahim Sangari (39th minute).
In the second half, Ivory Coast scored the third goal through Nicolas Pepe (54th minute).
The Algerian team tried to return in the match, but Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty kick, after which Algeria's only goal came through Sofiane Ben Debka (73rd minute).

The Ivorian team topped Group E with 7 points, to qualify for the Round of 16, where it will face Egypt, while Algeria ranked last (one point).
In a second match, within the same group competition, Equatorial Guinea defeated Sierra Leone, with a goal scored by Pablo Gannet (38th minute).
Guinea qualified in second place (6 points) with leading Ivory Coast, while Sierra Leone ranked third with one point.
