Ten Hag: 'Ronaldo should never play for Manchester United again'
Ten Hag delayed his family holiday until after Ronaldo's interview and demanded he never play for the club again.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Erik ten Hag told Manchester United bosses that Cristiano Ronaldo should "never play for them again."
Ten Hag delayed his family holiday until after Ronaldo's interview and demanded he never play for the club again, claiming he has gone too far in criticizing Manchester United. Ten Hag conducted a meeting on Monday with co-chairman Joel Glazer, chief executive Richard Arnold, and football director John Murtough to relay his views.
This comes as Manchester United secured a victory over Fulham, putting 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho in the spotlight with his stoppage-time winner.
Ten Hag commented on his unwillingness to put unity within the squad on the line by keeping Ronaldo in the team, although he admitted that the player could contribute in a positive manner during the second half of the season.
Ironically, Ten Hag spoke in May of his excitement to work with Ronaldo, whom he called one of the greatest players of all time, but the relationship went downhill after Ten Hag disciplined Ronaldo two times since July - reprimanding him first for leaving their pre-season friendly with football club Rayo Vallecano, then after being left out of a match after refusing to play as a substitute against Tottenham.
Ever since Ten Hag stepped in as Manchester United manager, the club's star of the year and top goalscorer last season, has had his roles reduced.
Ronaldo's angry interview
Superstar footballer Cristiano Ronaldo publicly raged at his Manchester United coach and club in an interview with Piers Morgan.
The Portuguese will be heading his fifth, and most probably his last World Cup tournament. In a 90-minute interview with Morgan, Ronaldo tore down the club for the way they had been treating him since returning to the Premier League last year.
Ronaldo told Morgan he believes the club is trying to "force him out."
“Yes,” Ronaldo said. “Not only the coach but another two or three guys there around the club.”
Morgan followed up: “At the senior executive level?”
“Yes. I felt betrayed," Ronaldo said.
Morgan asked Ronaldo if Manchester was trying to get rid of him, to which he responded, “Honestly, I shouldn’t say that, I don’t know...Listen, I don’t care. People should listen to the truth...Yes, I feel betrayed. And I felt some people don’t want me here. Not only this year but last year too."
