Billionaire entrepreneur and X owner Elon Musk has urged his followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, claiming the streaming giant promotes harmful and “explicit” content targeting children.
His call has since escalated into a wider online campaign under the slogan #CancelNetflix.
Musk amplifies boycott campaign
On October 1, Musk wrote on his platform, “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”
The post quickly went viral, amassing nearly 88 million views, close to 1 million likes, and more than 150,000 reposts by Friday.

Musk further fueled the campaign by reposting content from conservative commentators and activists, including Benny Johnson, who argued that the issue transcends party politics and represents a broader concern over what he described as the “sexualisation of children” in entertainment media.
What’s happening with Netflix is not “culture war” politics. It’s far worse. This is a direct assault on the morality of our society and the innocence of our children.

TikTok users, particularly one known as “Libs", have been credited with sparking the boycott by accusing Netflix of “pushing pro-transgender content on children.” Musk reshared their posts, adding that the company’s employee donations overwhelmingly favor the US Democratic party.

Market impact on Netflix
The campaign has already had financial repercussions. According to CompanyMarketCap data, Netflix’s market value dropped by 1.05% (USD 5.33 billion) to USD 507.25 billion this week as investors reacted to mounting calls for a boycott.
Despite the mounting pressure, Netflix has yet to issue an official response to Musk’s accusations or the growing online movement.
