US Secret Service Director James Murray retires to join Snap
After retiring as US Secret Service Director, James Murray is set to assist in ensuring the safety and security of Snap Inc's employees.
Social media company Snap Inc. confirmed that US Secret Service Director, James Murray, will become the company's new chief security officer, The Verge reported.
Shortly after the Secret Service announced in a statement Murray's retirement on Thursday, The Washington Post said that the security official will move to the private sector.
The Verge quoted Pete Boogaard, Snap spokesperson, as saying that "We’re thrilled to welcome Jim Murray to Snap and look forward to him joining our team on August 1st."
According to Snap, Murray will assist in ensuring the safety and security of the company's employees and work with law enforcement if necessary.
The US Secret Service praised Murray for his work navigating "the unique challenges presented by the historic COVID-19 pandemic" while carrying out the agency’s "integrated mission of providing protection to senior elected leaders and investigating crimes targeting our financial infrastructure."
According to The Washington Post, the Secret Service "best known for protecting current and former presidents and their families, has endured multiple controversies over the past decade, including a prostitution scandal, White House security missteps during the Obama administration and allegations of politicization under President Donald Trump."
It is noteworthy that US President Joe Biden praised Murray in a statement on Thursday, saying that he "embodies the meaning of service over self, and protected the families of U.S. Presidents like they were part of his own. We are incredibly grateful for his service to our country and our family."
