The US Space Force is actively planning the development of the "Golden Dome" missile defense system, with a progress report due to the White House by the end of the month, according to Vice Chief for Space Operations Lt. Gen. Michael Guetlein.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation on Wednesday, Guetlein noted the urgency of the project.

"I think from a planning perspective, we are in full planning mode, we owe an answer back to the White House by, I believe, the end of the month on what our thoughts are," Guetlein said.

He also stressed the need for authorization to conduct orbit training and testing to achieve the system's objectives.

The proposed system includes plans for space-based tracking sensors to detect incoming missiles and interceptors capable of neutralizing threats during their boost phase. This project is in line with the US government's focus on enhancing national security through advanced space-based defense technologies.
